AUDITION NOTICE: AUGUST 10TH - 7 PM
The 39 Steps is a humorous parody of Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film and includes other notable traces from Hitchcock’s work. The story of Richard Hannay, a man with a routine life, gets swept up in a dangerous espionage plot when he meets a mysterious woman who claims to be a spy. After she's murdered, he becomes the prime suspect and finds himself on the run from villains, policemen, and ordinary citizens; or are they all just spies in a dodgy organization known as "The 39 Steps." You be the judge! The show is filled with suspense, plot twists, chase scenes, and comical situations, even a bit of romance. The production uses creative and inventive staging with clever props as well as actors taking on multiple roles. It cleverly utilizes a small cast to bring to life to over 150 characters. The 39 Steps has garnered numerous awards, including two Tony Awards and Drama Desk Awards.
Characters (Must be 18+ years of age to audition):
Richard Hannay: Our Handsome and Dapper leading English gentleman. Standard BBC British accent. Large amount of physical comedy.
Annabella Schmidt: exotic secret agent, sends Hannay on a journey/on the run from spies. German accent.
Pamela: The leading lady to the end of the story. Witty, classy, and bold. Standard BBC British accent.
Margaret: Shy, innocent small-town wife dreaming of adventure beyond her daily life. Scottish accent.
(the above 3 Characters could be played by 1 Actress or broken out depending on Auditions)

Auditionees can prepare a 1-minute comedic monologue. It does not need to be memorized, although helpful. There will also be cold readings from the script & a small movement exercise to see your physicality.

A Message from our Vice-President (Past-President)
The Twin Valley Players is continuing to grow and expand each year. What initially started as a community theater in Halifax, PA, has become known regionally as a first rate Community Theater, providing what many of our patrons have said is on par with professional dinner theater in the region. The annual musical regularly costs more than $25,000 to stage, with additional moneys needed each year for the various other projects with which we are a part. The organization has been moving forward in the public eye, as well as behind the scenes. The volunteer board works to improve its function and effectiveness through on-going revisions and development of policies and procedures, and the organization continues to reach out with cooperative efforts with other non-profit organizations. This is an exciting time in the life of the organization, and we look forward to the growing cultural and educational impact we will have on the region.
